Installation of a post & wire system can be a cost effective and discreet way to prevent pigeons from landing on building ledges, fences and parapets etc.
Bird wire is a flexible ledge system that is designed for light and medium pressure sites only. The system is not suitable for pigeons roosting overnight or nesting. Wire does not prevent pigeons landing but acts as a discomfort and the tension from the spring pushes the pigeon away. Its important that the system is installed correctly to include the springs to be effective, otherwise failure will occur.
Post & wire systems do not harm pigeons. Smaller bird are still able to land unrestricted under the wire.
For a basic installation on a straight masonry ledge you will require:
- 115mm & 150mm single headed bird posts (2 rows)
- 25mm Anchor rivets & 6.5mm drill bit
- 0.7mm wire
- Standard springs & Crimps
The initial row should be installed 20mm from the edge with additional rows centred at 65mm, a minimum of 2 rows should be installed. Posts should be spaced at a maximum distance of 1.5m.
Use 115mm posts for the front row and 150mm posts for the rear rows in combination with 25mm anchor rivets.
When drilling is not possible such as on metal flashing use stick-on posts and a suitable adhesive. Allow the adhesive to cure before you tension the wire.
A spring should be attached to every length of wire and gently tensioned and then crimped.
If the pigeons are roosting at night or nesting use our Birdgo spike systems.
Birdgo sell a range of combination kits that include everything required for a successful installation – please see other listings.
