Thank you for purchasing a Roshield product. Whilst the majority of products are simple to use and require little technical knowledge we do appreciate that rodents can be difficult to control and may require additional assistance in resolving an infestation.
Please find below several options to guide you in your journey. If you do not find any of the information relevant to your issue or you require additional assistance please raise a support ticket.
The key points if you are having problems with rodenticide:
- Rodents are neophobic, which means that are cautious of new items when placed within their territory. Acceptance can take several day before they trust traps, consume bait or enter rodent boxes.
- Identify and remove alternative food sources to entice rodents to seek out other food sources. This allows for faster acceptance of traps & rodenticide bait.
- Do not under-estimate a rodent population. Rats and mice are nocturnal and shouldnt be active in the day, if they are, its likely that they are feeding or competing against a larger population.
- Do not stop baiting until no activity is observed and no further bait is consumed within the boxes. If you do stop you may give rats and mice are sub-lethal dose which might cause future bait shyness.
- Under-baiting is one of the main causes of failure in rodent control. Follow the instructions on the packaging and place approx 150g-200g per box if dealing with rats or 10g-20g for mice per box, within several locations around the infestation area. If the bait is taken quickly, additional rodenticide maybe required as the population is likely larger than expected.
The key points if you are having problems with traps:
- Placement of traps are important and they should be placed as close as possible to their activity areas but away from open environments such as hallways or behind a sofa. Rodent are neophobic and take several days to accept the traps.
- Identify and remove alternative food sources to entice rodents to seek out other food sources. This allows for faster acceptance of traps. Additional bait on their runs within the vicinity of the traps helps rodents investigate further.
- Rats & Mice can remove bait from traps without touching the treadle plate, they are extremely cautious and shouldnt be underestimated. Its important to keep baiting the cup so they remain interested and to help we recommend bait to be smeared on and under the treadle plate, to encourage rodents to be active.
- Rodent traps should be inspected daily and once caught the bodies should be disposed off quickly. Rats do not seem to be concerned when others are killed in the traps however they do seem to be more cautious once a body has been left to decompose.
- If trapping in external and damp environments its possible that slugs and snails can consume the bait. You can combat this with adding a thin layer of salt around the entrance and floor of the box.
