Sparrow Control
This information is relating to the house sparrow (Passer domesticus) only.
Sparrows are rarely a problem within residential properties in the UK, and control is generally not required. Where sparrows can often cause an issue is within industrial food premises where flocks can quickly grow to large unmanageable numbers. Powers for their control are limited mainly due to their size and overall demand for products that control sparrows.
Typical problematic sites include food productions sites, particularly open loading bays where sparrows will often perch causing considerable mess from their droppings. Control within these scenarios can be obtained with netting and good housekeeping.
It is important to highlight that all sparrows are protected by law, and the user should not undertake works in areas where sparrows are active. We recommend reviewing your national regulation as they are specific depending on the country within the UK. All devices available by Birdgo are designed to exclude birds without harming them; installers should not protect sites unless they have confidence that activity has ceased.
Spikes and bird wire is not a suitable control for sparrows, mainly due to their size as sparrows can quickly evade them. The only option for controlling sparrows is a physical prevention barrier to exclude them from specific locations; this can be controlled via netting or metal mesh. The grade size should not exceed 19mm in height.
19mm Sparrow Netting
Sparrow netting is a secure and effective barrier that prevents sparrows from gaining access to food sites and other locations to cause a health & safety issue. Bird netting is made from HDPE UV stabilised twine which can be used in both internal and external environments. Users should pay particular attention to the bird frame which holds the net as this is an area that starlings will abuse if installed incorrectly.
Recommended for installations for all types of proofing works.
Solar Panel Mesh
This device offers a permanent exclusion method where sparrows are unable to bypass the physical barrier. The mesh is highly recommended to prevent sparrows from gaining access to solar panels’ underside and can also be used around open fascias and voids around properties as required. Once installed correctly, this system will have a significantly longer life-span than netting. Available in both galvanised and PVC-coated plastic.
Recommended for installations for all types of proofing works.
